The reception to Manchester City’s social media campaign around the signing of the now-former Borussia Dortmund frontman has received wide praise, and secured the club plenty of engagement, and significant interactions from notable pages across the football world.
But it was the reaction of the Premier League’s official Twitter account that caught the eyes of many, with the page simply replying with the social media handle of newly-promoted side AFC Bournemouth accompanied by a sand timer emoji – suggesting that Erling Haaland’s first match in the English top-flight will be against the Cherries.

While the fixture is currently unconfirmed, along with the rest of the opening weekend fixtures, supporters will not have long to wait with the big reveal currently scheduled for Thursday morning of this week.
By that point, Erling Haaland is expected to have met the majority of his new Etihad Stadium teammates, and may have already played three fixtures under Pep Guardiola – with the striker expected to link up with the side for their pre-season tour of the United States.
Manchester City are currently scheduled to face Club America and Bayern Munich in July, while the traditional curtain-raiser to the new season also awaits, as the reigning Premier League champions go up against FA Cup winners Liverpool in the Community Shield at the King Power Stadium at the end of the same month.
